Hongshan town displays an IoT "Truman Show"

The Hongshan World IoT Technology Application Competition started on May 24. Now in its collection stage, a large number of industry-leading internet of things (IoT) enterprises, institutes and startups have gathered in Wuxi’s Hongshan town, Jiangsu province.

The competition aims to promote the 2017 World Internet of Things Exposition, attracting more attention from the world and drawing talents, enterprises, technology and capital to Hongshan to build an open IoT laboratory.

The competition is divided into two series: the 2017 World Internet Technical Scheme Contest and the 2017 World Internet of Things Technology Competition, with the live-action exhibition as the spotlight event. Competitors are required to apply their designs in a real-world environment, such as farmlands, greenhouses, wetland parks, museums and other places throughout Hongshan to showcase the application IoT technology in the living environment.

This year’s live-action contest focuses on smart agriculture and smart tourism. Thirty mu (2 hectares) of farmland have been chosen as experimental bases, along with some tourist attractions inside the Wu Culture Expo Park offered for competitors to research.

IoT virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles (uav) will appear at the competition, displaying the effect and changes that IoT can bring to the future for visitors.
