A matchmaking conference for overseas returnees to promote their innovative projects to government officials, high-tech companies and capital institutes was held in Wuxi, Jiangsu province on Aug 27.
A total of 93 projects joined the matchmaking event and were introduced to Wuxi's industrial parks, companies and capital owners. The projects came from 24 fields, including the Internet of Things, new materials, artificial intelligence and medical apparatus and instruments.
Huang Qin, acting vice mayor of Wuxi, addressed the conference, saying the city has great potential for innovation and start-ups and he hopes the event will help more high-tech professionals and good projects settle in Wuxi.
Chairman of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association UK, one of the organizers of the event, Zhang Cen, extended best wishes to the matchmaking, expecting overseas students to seize the opportunity to bring their ideas and products back to the motherland.
All participating teams were led by people with master's degrees and above and one third of the members were from globally top universities like Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London.
Han Yifan, a PhD graduate from Oxford, made a three-minute presentation on a smart system for city management. By marking people with different data, the system is able to track their movements, which makes it useful for public security. Han said his team has established cooperation ties with Beijng and Tianjin railway stations to strengthen security checks at transportation hubs.
StudyUK is an online platform developed by six Chinese and one British student from Imperial College London. The platform allows Chinese students in the UK to find answers to questions on almost everything about living and studying in the country, like school entrance requirements and examinations. The team presented their ideas and experience, hoping to get financial support from the Wuxi government, companies or capital institutes.
More than 10 agreements were signed at the matchmaking conference. A number of projects reached a preliminary cooperation intention stage with industrial parks and companies in Wuxi.
