The 5G (short for the 5th generation wireless systems) Industry Alliance was established by Jiangsu Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile, at the IoT Developer Conference in Wuxi, Jiangsu province on Sept 16.
The alliance is a non-profit organization promoting information sharing and innovative cooperation among its 52 member companies and institutes at home and abroad to advance the construction of the 5G network, core technologies and key equipment.
A Jiangsu Open Laboratory of the China Mobile 5G Joint Innovation Center was also set up at the conference, consisting of five parts: 5G testing and an exhibition zone, a 5G experimental zone, an IoT experimental zone, a big data and cloud computing experimental zone and a family experimental zone.
At present, the lab has entered partnerships with 26 companies.
Zhang Benzhuang, an engineer from Huawei, one of the lab's partners and a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, said that the lab narrows the distance between companies with and without cutting-edge technology and many of the latter are expected to take advantage of it.
The alliance will spare no effort to make full use of the laboratory to promote 5G's application and R&D in Jiangsu.
