The Internet of things industry, or IoT industry, has become a landmark calling card of Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.
The operating revenue of the IoT industry in the city amounted to 401.1 billion yuan ($55.1 billion) last year, up 16.2 percent year-on-year and accounting for nearly 50 percent of the total in Jiangsu.

A complete IoT industrial chain featuring more than 3,000 enterprises engaged in sensors, sensing equipment, smart hardware, information communication, and application service has taken shape in Wuxi.
Universities, institutes, and leading IoT businesses have joined hands to build 13 technological innovation bases, nine collaborative innovation platforms, four joint laboratories, and one Wuxi IoT Innovation Promotion Center in the city in recent years.
Since 2019, Wuxi has received 14 National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology in the IoT field and obtained over 3,000 authorized invention patents per year.

Currently, the city has more than 60 billion yuan worth of funds in the IoT industry, which has more than 200,000 workers, including nearly 50,000 highly-skilled professionals.
IoT technologies have been applied in all aspects of Wuxi's urban management, including transportation, environmental protection, and medical care, assisting the city in becoming the only Asian city enrolled for the IEEE Smart City Pilot Project. The IoT projects undertaken by local enterprises can be found in more than 800 cities of nearly 80 countries and regions.
